A Brief Description My name is Anthony Glover. I am a father of three living on the outskirts of Bristol, where I work as a Dental Surgeon. Having three little people sharing my life now I really appreciate just how important they are and how much they depend on us. I do not take the good health of my family for granted and over time have wanted to try and raise some money to support the children (and their families) who have to spend time in hospital. The local hospital for children is the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital. | ||

All About it. On Saturday 13th June 2009 I shall be taking part in a 22 mile mountain race. This race is unusual in that the competitors are a mix of your conventional two legged human runners competing against riders on horseback. I don't have a horse so I'll be using my legs. This event has been running since the early eighties with the route chosen to allow an even match between man and horse. On only one occasion has a two legger crossed the line first! This took 25 years to happen though there have been several close finishes. My aspirations are not so grand. I hope just to get myself (and my breakfast) all the way round. I have been a runner for many years now and compete in 3 mile to 13 mile events. This particular event is a little beyond my usual comfort zone, but I am looking forward to it.
My aim is to use this event to raise as much money as I can for the local children's hospital here in Bristol. The Royal Bristol Children's Hospital is supported by the "Above and Beyond Charities" This charity helps provide significant assistance to the children who are patients at the hospital. My request is that the money raised goes towards the entertainment and educational facilities available in the hospital. They are a registered charity - No. 229945
All costs associated with this event are my responsibility. It is not costing the charity anything for me to prepare for the race, to enter the race, to travel to the race etc etc. The only costs for you to be aware of are the Just Giving transaction charge described below.
If you follow the link to my "Just Giving" page you can make a donation directly to the charity - http://www.justgiving.com/anthonyversushorse
About "Just Giving" Any donation given this way will automatically be tagged as associated with Anthony Glover and the Man v Horse race. If you are a UK taxpayer Gift Aid can be used. Payments through Just Giving are subject to a 5% transaction charge. The net result of this is that for every £10 given the charity gets £11.90. Well, you know what to do! Get on and sponsor me. I want to have £500 collected by the time 13th June comes around. If you have any questions, suggestions or want to contribute but don't want to do it via "Just Giving" then please contact me by email - manvhorseATanthonygloverDOTcoDOTuk (Replace the "at"s and "dots" with @ and . when entering the address manually. You should be able to email me just by clicking the email address.)
Useful Links. http://www.green-events.co.uk/ Follow this link to the official race website. The event is run by the Green Events Ltd - the organisers of the Man v Horse mountain marathon. They are a non profit making organisation based in Llanwrtyd Wells. They organise a variety of unusual events in the local area in conjunction with the local tourist association to boost the local economy. This is the home page for "Just Giving". Here you will find information on how the organisation works (described in brief above). Type in Anthony Glover in the "sponsor a friend" field to get to my page. This is a YouTube video giving some interesting footage and a better idea of what the event involves. It is well worth a look.
